Fleming County Hospital and Meadowview Regional Medical Center Launches Pet Therapy Program
May 05, 2022
Fleming County Hospital and Meadowview Regional Medical Center has teamed with Dr. Rhonda Sims and her two dogs, Koda and Molly, to begin offering pet therapy for patients and staff throughout both facilities.
In pet therapy, trained volunteers and their adult dogs visit patients and staff who enjoy the company of a furry friend. Pet therapy has been found to have several benefits. Pet therapy can reduce stress, promote healing, lower blood pressure, and lift spirits. In addition, pet therapy provides a comforting source of healing touch for patients in the hospital.
Dr. Sims earned her doctorate in nursing practice from Walden University. She is a registered nurse licensed in Kentucky and Ohio. Dr. Sims, a faculty member at Maysville Community and Technical College, is a professor of registered nursing. She also is the forensic nurse for both Fleming County Hospital and Meadowview Regional Medical Center
“Animals bring such joy into people’s lives in many ways,” said Joe Koch, Market President and CEO. “I’m very happy that we will now be able to offer pet therapy to patients and staff.”
